Vineland Public Schools partnered with the Vineland Downtown Improvement District to sponsor a scarecrow contest.
Twenty-seven scarecrows created by public, private, parochial and charter schools, and the Woman's Club of Vineland, are now “standing guard” along Landis Avenue between Myrtle Street and the Boulevard. The themes for the entries run the gamut from classic to a whale to Einstein to Harry Potter to Ninja Turtle to Maleficent.
Community members are invited take a stroll along the Avenue to view the scarecrows and vote for their favorite. Votes may be cast via anonymous paper ballots or online. In case you can't get to the Avenue to see the scarecrows, photographs of the entries are available on the online ballot.

This free event, which will begin at 5:30 p.m., will be a high-energy, high-impact event which will result in a new logo and new image for Landis Avenue and the downtown. The major sponsor for the event is Premier Orthopaedic Associates, with Capital Bank of New Jersey as the reception and networking sponsor.
Soon after the formal launch, the new logo and brand will appear on new banners, signs on both ends of the downtown, on a new sculpture to be designed, new letterhead, business cards, a newly-designed website, and other items.Continue reading
Robert Scarpa, Main Street Vineland’s Business Development Director, recently announced that Steve Wozniak will open a new brewery, Brinx Jones Brewing Company, at the former Martini Shoes site on The Ave. “We’re anticipating it will open soon,” said Scarpa. (Brinx is Wozniak’s dog.)
The Brinx Jones owner was living in Washington, DC and working at a microbrewery and he started researching opening his own place. He found The Ave online, and was impressed by the downtown property. The brewer’s license does not allow for food preparation, however, so it’s BYOF—bring your own food.
In mid-December of last year, Friends & Family Diner joined an unprecedented wave of new and distinct eateries on The Ave. It is open at 601 East Landis Avenue for breakfast and lunch and features American cuisine.
During his soft opening this summer, Friends & Family took part in the Main Street Vineland's Fourth Friday activities with karaoke night - featuring an outdoor grill, which will become a regular part of the restaurant.
After the closing of Landis MarketPlace last year, many of its former independent small businesses re-located across the street at an eclectic and exciting new location dubbed The Spot. Any readers who remember the old Avenue will remember that The Spot is in the location of the old I.C. Schwarzman’s department store.
“Just as Schwarzman’s was an iconic destination for generations of downtown Vineland shoppers in its day, I see The Spot as an iconic destination for today’s and tomorrow’s shoppers,” said Robert Scarpa, Main Street Vineland’s Business Development Director.Continue reading
A key to the journey to the future for the Vineland downtown has always been the entry point into the downtown. The East Gateway—the corner where The Ave meets East Avenue is the first step in its revitalization, with the magnificent restoration of the Landis Theater and Performing Arts Center. Now, the coming second step shows in the artists rendition of the complex—a project that will soon take the entire block on the south side of Landis Avenue.Continue reading

From time to time, someone will ask me, “What is Main Street?”
They know of Main Road. They know that Landis Avenue is the main street of Vineland. They know that Millville has a main artery named Main Street. But where’s Main Street in Vineland?
“Main Street,” in the way that it is used in “Main Street Vineland” isn’t the name of a specific street. It’s the name of a national program that is part of the National Main Street Center, which, in turn, is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It has been in existence on a national scale for over 35 years.Continue reading
