Downtown Merchants Meet & Geet

Downtown Merchants Meet & Geet

Main Street Vineland will be sponsoring its next Downtown Merchants Meet-and-Greet on Thursday, April 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the law offices of Gruccio, Pepper, De Santo & Ruth, P.A., at 817 E. Landis Ave., Vineland.

The Downtown Merchants Meet-and-Greets, held every other month on the first Thursday, are meant to bring the various downtown businesses together to get to know and network with each other, and with Main Street Vineland representatives, according to Main Street Vineland Executive Director Russell Swanson. As the Meet-and-Greets are open to the public, it is also an opportunity for the public and the merchants to get to know and network with each other, he said.

“We’re proud to be able to hold this Meet-and-Greet in one of our premier law firms, which is located in one of our downtown’s classic buildings,” Swanson said. “In the early days of Main Street Vineland, they hosted our team meetings in their beautiful conference room. We’re happy and proud to invite businesses and the public to network with us in this fabulous location.

“Merchant networking—to each other and to the public is so very important in a strong center-city business community and the strong turnouts we have been having create a strong network,” Swanson said. “A downtown is a community of its own and the members of that community work best when they know and work with each other.”

This is also opportunity for the businesses and the public to get to know what the Main Street program does and how they can benefit from what Main Street Vineland offers. Doing this on a regular basis, Swanson said, builds on the progress already established.

“We in Main Street want to keep our merchants and the public informed about what is going on in our downtown, but also we want feedback from the businesses, as well,” said Main Street Vineland Associate Director and Business Development Director Robert Scarpa. “This not only includes input from the businesses but also using networking forums like this to show off what goods and services they offer the public.”

The Downtown Merchants Meet-and-Greets are a regular part of Main Street Vineland’s downtown mix of activities, according to Swanson, and various downtown businesses will have the opportunity to gain added exposure by taking turns hosting them.

Those attending should RSVP by calling the Main Street Vineland office or e-mailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than Tuesday, April 4.

First Microbrewery Opening Soon

First Microbrewery Opening Soon

Robert Scarpa, Main Street Vineland’s Business Development Director, recently announced that Steve Wozniak will open a new brewery, Brinx Jones Brewing Company, at the former Martini Shoes site on The Ave. “We’re anticipating it will open soon,” said Scarpa. (Brinx is Wozniak’s dog.)

The Brinx Jones owner was living in Washington, DC and working at a microbrewery and he started researching opening his own place. He found The Ave online, and was impressed by the downtown property. The brewer’s license does not allow for food preparation, however, so it’s BYOF—bring your own food.

The Spot is for Experiential Shopping

After the closing of Landis MarketPlace last year, many of its former independent small businesses re-located across the street at an eclectic and exciting new location dubbed The Spot. Any readers who remember the old Avenue will remember that The Spot is in the location of the old I.C. Schwarzman’s department store.

“Just as Schwarzman’s was an iconic destination for generations of downtown Vineland shoppers in its day, I see The Spot as an iconic destination for today’s and tomorrow’s shoppers,” said Robert Scarpa, Main Street Vineland’s Business Development Director.

Gateway to the Future

Gateway to the Future

A key to the journey to the future for the Vineland downtown has always been the entry point into the downtown. The East Gateway—the corner where The Ave meets East Avenue is the first step in its revitalization, with the magnificent restoration of the Landis Theater and Performing Arts Center. Now, the coming second step shows in the artists rendition of the complex—a project that will soon take the entire block on the south side of Landis Avenue.

What is Main Street?

What is Main Street?

From time to time, someone will ask me, “What is Main Street?”

They know of Main Road. They know that Landis Avenue is the main street of Vineland. They know that Millville has a main artery named Main Street. But where’s Main Street in Vineland?

“Main Street,” in the way that it is used in “Main Street Vineland” isn’t the name of a specific street. It’s the name of a national program that is part of the National Main Street Center, which, in turn, is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It has been in existence on a national scale for over 35 years.
